  2.                 frankie finger

  4.    it was 11:08 p.m. on a cool, quiet
  5.  
  6. tuesday, june 11. a cold front had
  7.  
  8. passed through huxley that morning,
  9.  
  10. bringing rain along with it and a break
  11.  
  12. in a week-old heat wave. officer
  13.  
  14. mcaleavy was patrolling station drive,
  15.  
  16. between westron drive and main street,
  17.  
  18. his car windows open to take advantage
  19.  
  20. of the break in the weather, when he
  21.  
  22. heard four shots. they seemed to come
  23.  
  24. from groton street, on the other side of
  25.  
  26. main street.

  29.    turning on his flashers, he made a
  30.  
  31. left onto main street. as he approached
  32.  
  33. groton street, he saw two cars. one
  34.  
  35. continued straight on groton, the other
  36.  
  37. turned onto main street and passed
  38.  
  39. officer mcaleavy. mcaleavy turned right
  40.  
  41. onto groton, slowly proceeding up the
  42.  
  43. street. as he drew alongside dewberry's
  44.  
  45. wines and spirits, he saw something dark
  46.  
  47. and bulky in the parking lot. ten
  48.  
  49. minutes later, frankie finger was
  50.  
  51. pronounced dead at the scene.

  54.    chief sabellico was in a not-so-quiet
  55.  
  56. fury when you arrived at the station

  58. house at 9:00 a.m., wednesday, june

  60. 12th. he called a meeting in his office.

  62. "there are only two possibilities in

  64. this finger murder. one, frankie was

  66. killed for personal or not-so-personal

  68. reasons. two, frankie was killed because
